Earth ScienceClass Objectives
The Earth/Environmental science curriculum focuses on the function of Earth's systems. Emphasis is placed on matter, energy, plate tectonics, origin and evolution of the earth and solar system, environmental awareness, materials availability, and the cycles that circulate energy and material through the earth system. A detailed breakdown of the material to be covered can be found in the North Carolina Essential Standards. We will achieve this through small group and class discussions, labs, reading, writing, and numerous hands-on activities. By the end of this course students should have a solid base in geology, astronomy, meteorology, mapping, and environmental sciences, as well as a thorough understanding of correct lab procedure and safety, experimentation, and how science relates to the world around us. We will be doing a lot of Project-based learning. One of the goals of this approach is to help you become more independent in your learning, as well as being selective in your selection of resources. Written components of the projects will always be in APA format |
